LESSON 5: INTRODUCTION TO ENGLISH

 STORY #1: There is a man. His name is John. John has a wife and three kids. His wife’s name is Jamie. The kids are 10 years old, 8 years old, and 6 years old. There are two boys and one girl. The kids are very active. They play soccer and volleyball. After games, the family likes to go out to eat at restaurants. The kids like to eat different things than their parents. John and Jamie like to eat fish, meat, chicken, and potatoes. It is hard for them to decide which restaurant to eat at. Every time they go out to eat, it is a problem. Joey, who is 10, always wants chicken nuggets from McDonald’s. Sam, who is 8, always wants to eat pizza. Sarah, who is 6, always wants to eat ice cream. The family usually ends up ordering food from two different places.  Jamie and John get their food from a nice restaurant, and the kids get their food from a fast-food restaurant. 

STORY #1 WITH QUESTIONS: There is a man. (Is there a man or a woman?) His name is John. (What is his name?) John has a wife and three kids. (Does he have a wife? How many kids does he have?) His wife’s name is Jamie. (What is his wife’s name?) The kids are 10 years old, 8 years old, and 6 years old. (How old are the kids?) There are two boys and one girl. (How many are boys?) The kids are very active. (Are they active?) They play soccer and volleyball. (What do the kids play?) After games, the family likes to go out to eat at restaurants. (Where does the family like to go after the games? Do they like to eat at home or in restaurants?) The kids like to eat different things than their parents. (Do they all like to eat the same things?) John and Jamie like to eat fish, meat, chicken, and potatoes. (What do John and Jamie like to eat?) It is hard for them to decide which restaurant to eat at. (Is it easy or hard to decide where to eat?) Every time they go out to eat, it is a problem. (What is a problem?) Joey, who is 10, always wants chicken nuggets from McDonald’s. Sam, who is 8, always wants to eat pizza. Sarah, who is 6, always wants to eat ice cream. (What does Joey like to eat? What does Sam like to eat? What does Sarah like to eat?  How old are the kids?) STORY #2: When Jamie goes shopping for the family, she always has to buy a variety of things. For the kids, she buys fruit snacks, cookies, sandwich meat, bread, cheese, and yogurt. For her husband, she buys steaks, fish, rice, and potatoes. She always buys vegetables and fruits for the whole family. Shopping is difficult when you have to shop for many people and everyone has different favorite foods.   

STORY #2 WITH QUESTIONS: When Jamie goes shopping for the family, she always has to buy a variety of things. (What does Jamie have to buy when she goes shopping?)
