ACTIVITIES:

  1. Review the vocabulary words. Listen to the Vocabulary File for pronunciation. Look up the meaning of any words you don’t know.
  2. Listen to Audio 1  as you read through the story.
  3. Listen to Audio 2 – Story with Questions as you read through the story and answer the questions.
  4. Review:
    • How are you?
    • What is your favorite color?
    • How old are you?
    • What do you like to do?
    • Etc.
  5. Review or teach vocabulary words using a poster and pictures. Inventing actions to go with the words makes it easier for kids to learn the words.
  6. Play the point/touch game. Who can point at/touch the picture first? For this game have two students come up to the front.  Say a vocabulary word, such as “boy.” Whoever finds the correct word first wins.  The one who did not get it first sits back down and a new student comes forward.  Keep playing to review vocabulary words.
  7.  Retell the story while acting it out with two students. One will be Sam and the other will be Laura. Point to the boy when asking, “What is his name?” and to the girl when asking, “What is her name?” “Is she a boy or a girl?” and so on. When students first learn a language it is important to use actions. We suggest using “thumbs up” and “thumbs down” when answering “yes” and “no.”
  8. Game: Play “telefono roto.” Sit in a circle and whisper a vocabulary word or sentence to a student. Have the students whisper it around the whole circle. See how it ends up! You can play multiple times.
