LESSON 36: DAVID AND GOLIATH

THEME: 1 Samuel 17

VOCABULARY: giant, taunt, strong, fight, armor, attack, approach, spear, getting along, protected, challenge, battle, joke

STORY: There is a young boy. His name is David. He is a handsome young boy. David and his family are part of the Israelites. They are ruled by King Saul. The Israelites are not getting along with some people called the Philistines. The Philistines have many giants living in their land. The biggest and strongest giant is a giant named Goliath. Goliath is over 9 feet tall! He is such a big giant and he is protected by armor and carries a big spear. Everyone is very afraid of him. Goliath likes to taunt, or yell things at the Israelites so that they will challenge him to a battle. One day David went to visit his brothers and decided that if no one else was going to stand up against Goliath, he would. But when King Saul hears this, he does not want David to fight Goliath because David is just a boy. However, David knows that he can do it because he has fought many animals to protect his father’s sheep. David knows that God will keep him safe. So one day David decides to fight Goliath. He put on armor to protect him, but it was too heavy, so he took it off.  When David approached Goliath, Goliath thought it was a joke. He didn’t understand how such a young boy could come and fight him. David knew that God would help him to win. When Goliath attacked, David took out a stone and threw it at Goliath. The stone hit Goliath in the head and he fell. David had beat Goliath! David became a hero with the help of the Lord!
