BEGINNER LEVEL 1: Lesson 27 for Teachers

LESSON 27: HEARING GOD’S VOICE

THEME: Hearing God Through Dreams (Gen 28:10-17)

VOCABULARY: rest, set, dark, sleep, dream, stairway, Heaven, angels, promised, above

STORY: There is a man. His name is Jacob. Jacob is walking to go to another town. After walking for some time, he stopped to rest because the sun had set and it was getting dark. He laid down to sleep. While he was sleeping, he had a dream.  In his dream, he saw a stairway to Heaven. On that stairway, he saw angels. Above the stairway, he saw the Lord. He heard the Lord speak and tell him what was to come. The Lord told him, “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go.” God said, “I will not leave you until I have completed what I have promised you.” When Jacob woke up, he knew that the Lord had spoken to him through his dream. Jacob knew that where he rested was filled with the Spirit of the Lord. Jacob was excited to have heard from the Lord through his dream. Jacob knew that the Lord would give him everything he would need for the rest of his journey.

ACTIVITIES

  1. Review the vocabulary words. Listen to the Vocabulary File for pronunciation. Look up the meaning of any words you don’t know.
  2. Listen to Audio 1 as you read through the story.
  3. Listen to Audio 2 – Story with Questions as you read through the story and answer the questions.
  4. Answer the following questions:
    1. In what ways can we hear from the Lord? (dreams, speaking, etc…)
    2. How do you personally hear from the Lord? (allow for ideas)
  5. Make Listening Ears craft with the students. (Pre-cut paper to fit around their head.)
    1. Students cut out the ears and color.  The “listening ears” will become a hat. Have them glue the ears onto a strip of paper that fits around their head.
    2. Discuss how they can always have “listening ears” or ears that are ready to hear from the Lord through prayer, others, songs, or dreams.
  6. Have a student pray in English.
