STORY: There is a family that lives in the United States. In the family, there is a son, a daughter, a mom, and a dad. They live in a nice house and have lots of toys. They go to school every day. The daughter is 9 and the son is 8. The son’s name is Luke and the daughter’s name is Lindsay. They are involved in many activities.  Luke does karate, boy scouts, and break dancing.  Lindsay does dance, girl scouts, and karate. When you see the family they look very happy. But what most people don’t know is that the family is very lost. The dad works a lot and usually works far away from home. He is sometimes gone for 8 weeks at a time. The kids get very sad when their dad is gone. The mom sometimes likes to party on the weekends. This makes the kids upset because they know that when their mom parties she drinks a little too much. Lindsay feels very lost at times.  Luke is very angry at times. Even though on the outside they look like such a great family, they are all suffering in many ways. The parents are atheists. They do not believe in God. The mom’s sister does believe in God and tries to shine some light into their life. The aunt knows that she can not fix the family or make them believe in God but she can be the light. Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”  The aunt really wants to shine the Lord’s light into the family. She knows that she is not responsible for fixing their situation, but she knows that she can be a help and support and that through her the Lord can bring them comfort. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Cor 1:3-4)
