LESSON 18: READ AND RESPOND

THEME: A Special Time

STORY: When Sarah was ten years old she went on a trip with her family. They went to Disney World.  This is her favorite memory because her mother, father, brother, and sister were all there. It was the first time that her whole family had gone on a trip together. When they were at Disney World she did lots of new things. She rode the different rides and met the Disney characters. She had so much fun. Her brother ate lots of food in Disney. He ate popcorn, candy, and ice cream every day. He also went on rides.  They played games together.  They all had a great time at Disney. 

ACTIVITIES

  1. Review the vocabulary words. Listen to the Vocabulary File for pronunciation. Look up the meaning of any words you don’t know.
  2. Listen to Audio 1 as you read through the story.
  3. Listen to Audio 2 – Story with Questions as you read through the story and answer the questions.
  4. Have the class split into partners. Have them answer the following questions:
    1. What is the girl’s name?
    2. How old was she when she went on a trip with her family?
    3. Where did she and her family go?
    4. Why is it her favorite memory?
    5. What did she do at Disney World?
    6. What did her brother do at Disney World?
  5. Go over the assignment as a class. 
  6. If there is time, have them talk about something that was special to them.
    1. Did they ever go somewhere?
    2. Did they ever do something fun and memorable?
    3. Did they ever have a fun weekend with family? 
  7. Have students write it out in story form:
    • Once I went to __________. It was fun/interesting/memorable because __________. My favorite part about it was __________. Continue writing about your story.
  8. Have students share their stories with the class.
  9. End Class in Prayer.
